Study finds TV can decrease self-esteem in children, except white boys

The write-up has a couple of flaws - using black kids as stand-ins for all nonwhite kids; no mention of the results with respect to black girls - but it basically confirms what most of us already knew: it's not "just a TV show (/book/movie/etc)"

So Dan Harmon isn't working on Community any more. Why would they do this? Why is this happening? Why do I care so much? I don't know why, but this is really upsetting me today.

Daniel and I just watched The Book of Eli. I'm not gonna review the movie, I just want to give y'all the warning I wish someone had given me: there's a lot of rape in this movie. There are at least three rapes/attempted rapes on screen. It's not even a trigger for me (just a big squick), and I was really freaked out by it. BE WARNED.

Possibly good news: They're making a movie of Runaways, my favorite comics series! This will mean, among other things, a big-budget action movie with twice as many women as men - plus a dinosaur, and some awesome-looking supernatural bad guys (and possibly a gay character, though it's only hinted at in the first story arc). Even if you haven't seen the old Batman TV series, you probably know that Robin was famous for exclaiming, "holy _____, Batman!". Here's of a list of those exclamations.

1) The Walking Dead premieres in October! This is one of my favorite comics series right now, and I really hope the show does it justice. The comic's creators seem excited about the show, which is always a good sign.
